BARAZDA structured panels

The name of our most recent development refers to the pattern of narrow, parallel depressions running across agricultural fields. Similarly, the surface of these panels is also patterned with thin grooves, which make the different colored veneer layers visible and result in a special ribbed surface.

Below is a brief technical explanation and a selection of different patterns.

Technical info

BARAZDA panels are essentially two different layers of wood veneers mounted on a solid base. Its spectacular pattern is achieved by CNC-milling parallel lines into the surface of the top layer, allowing visibility of the layer underneath.

Depending on the final use of the boards the covering layers of veneers can be mounted on plywood, MDF or particle boards in various thicknesses.

According to the complexity of the pattern 3 main types can be distinguished.

Basic

All the layers are solid veneer, but are of different species or colour. By using coral samba as a base, covered with a teak layer we get a coral-teak patterned surface after milling. Straight across both bands prevail over the entire width of the panels. From the side, however, the top layer dominates, while the base colour becomes narrower and eventually disappears at a certain viewing angle.

Intermediate

A more complicated pattern can be achieved if one of the solid veneer layers is replaced by a striped marquetry of veneers rotated slightly against the grooves. A red-brown-green striped layer emerges from under a mahogany veneer layer on the sample. The solid and striped layers can be interchanged to create a whole new pattern.

Advanced

An exceptionally spectacular and vibrant visual effect can be achieved if all the layers are striped marquetry. Different coloured stripes pass through each other, creating an untangleable system reminiscent of a woven fabric.
