Multipraktik grew out of a family workshop with more than four decades of experience working with wood veneers.
What started with table tennis blades gradually opened up new ways of thinking about the same material: from highly engineered plywood panels to colourful surfaces, patterns, furniture elements and objects.
Today, we explore what wood veneer can do beyond its traditional uses. We combine industrial precision with hands-on making, experimenting with layers, colours, patterns and structures to create new possibilities for furniture and interiors.

How it all began
In 1983, Béla Széll started making table tennis blades in a small garage workshop in Senta, Yugoslavia. The business grew into an OEM manufacturer supplying professional blades to European and Japanese table tennis brands.
In 1992, the workshop moved to Kiskőrös, Hungary, where it has remained a 100% family-owned company ever since. Decades of working with thin layers of carefully selected wood created a strong technical foundation — and a deep knowledge of veneers and plywood.
A new use for the material
A professional table tennis blade is a highly precise 5- or 7-ply construction, made from carefully selected wood veneers. We started looking at this familiar material differently: what else could be made by layering, pressing, cutting and combining veneers?
This became the starting point for Multipraktik plywood — and later for a much wider exploration of veneer as a material for furniture, interiors and objects. Natural or dyed, subtle or colourful, flat or patterned, the possibilities go far beyond a traditional plywood panel.

Working with MoME
Our collaboration with the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) began through experimental courses with the Product Design Department. We provide materials, technical knowledge and access to the workshop, while students bring their own questions, ideas and ways of working.
Working directly with veneer — rather than only designing it on a screen — often leads to unexpected discoveries. We value this exchange and continue to welcome opportunities to work with the next generation of designers.
PERMUTATIONS
PERMUTATIONS unfolded from our first collaboration with MoME Budapest. Its unique surface was developed together with Zoltán Krémer who started an exciting experiment with dyed veneers. The project resulted in a modular furniture system with colourful, grooved fronts that offer an exciting visual and tactile experience. The modules can be used individually or combined into larger arrangements and can also be read as a three-dimensional wall composition.
The project received a BIG SEE Wood Design Award in 2023 in Ljubljana.

Appearances & encounters
Over the years, we have presented our work at design events in Hungary and abroad, including Stockholm Furniture Fair, BIG SEE Design Festival in Ljubljana, Milano Design Week, Construma Budapest and 360 Design Budapest.
For us, exhibitions are not only about showing finished products. Wood is a tactile material, and seeing it, touching it and experiencing the details in person is an important part of understanding what we do.
Our plywood has also been included in the Material ConneXion database, an international material library used by designers, architects and other professionals looking for new materials and technologies.
Our story
Multipraktik started in 2021 as a side project alongside our existing work — an exploration we began simply because we were curious about what we could do with the materials around us.
Today, Multipraktik is what we do every day. We don't know exactly where it will take us next — and that's part of the fun. We want to keep experimenting, learning and making, while staying open to new materials, ideas and collaborations.
